The international word list used in all tournament play outside of North America and on the Internet Scrabble Club under the name 'SOWPODS' is being updated during 2007. The ISC changeover has now taken place.
Why is this happening?
This is to coincide with the publication of Official Tournament and Club Word List 2007 by Collins, which was adopted by the Association of British Scrabble Players on 15th May and almost all other national Scrabble associations around the world around the same time. North America continues to use TWL word list only.
The TWL dictionary was updated last year. Does this new SOWPODS update include all those new words too?
Yes. It contains every word added to TWL last year and more new words obtained from Collins English Dictionary.
What are the major changes?
You can find the new 2- and 3-letter words below. The Collins Initiation Kit available in the Dictionaries and Word Lists section offers a comprehensive guide to all the new words.
Can I buy the new book?
The Tournament and Club Word List itself is available for purchase from this website for only £6.00 in the Dictionaries and Word Lists section (or see below). We also have a Useful Words Sheet listing all 2- and 3-letter plays plus other useful short words and an invaluable 44-page booklet, the Collins Initiation Kit which gives a comprehensive guide to the most useful new words plus a list of the deletions which have also taken place.
I bought an older Collins book which was never adopted by the Scrabble movement or ISC. Can I just download a list of changes?
Yes, you can download this list of changes. Note that this is not a list of changes from the word list currently used in Scrabble clubs, tournaments or on ISC.
